Independent of a patient’s foot/ankle diagnosis, 40% of foot/ankle pain severity may
be explained by our six predictor variables. Over one-third of this could be uniquely accounted for
by catastrophising. Given that evidence supports that catastrophising is modifiable by appropriate
intervention, we hypothesise that appropriate use of pre-screening services and psychoeducation
would positively alter outcomes for foot/ankle orthopaedic patients.
